Mount Etna, or simply Etna, is an active stratovolcano on the east coast of Sicily, Italy, in the Metropolitan City of Catania, between the cities of Messina and Catania. It is one of the tallest active volcanoes in Europe, and the tallest peak in Italy south of the Alps with a current height of 3,357m. What's interesting is that it doesn't look like your standard volcano as it is actually comprised of three seperate peaks. The most recent erruption was in Feburary of this year so due to volcanic activity we were only able to get to about 3,200 metres.
Our recommendation: If you find yourself hiking a volcano any time soon please bring lots of sunscreen.
